About Me
Welcome to my web site with a little of my background. I am currently a Research Scientist in the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health at Dartmouth College working with the Open Recordings research team.
My interests focus around the human-computer interaction (HCI) design of and user research for collaborative software systems, information sharing and decision-making, computer supported cooperative work/learning (CSCW/CSCL) applications, and place-based community networks as well as in research networking contexts. I enjoy research projects that take a multifaceted approach to examine theory of behavior and HCI design through user experiments. Another interest is in object-oriented UI reuse. Feel free to learn more about some of my work on my research page and browse papers on my publications page.
Prior to the pandemic, I was a Research Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Data Science at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth as part of the Hassanpour Lab. Before that at Dartmouth, I was also a Research Scientist helping lead design research as part of the Informatics Collaboratory for Design, Development & Dissemination (ic3d). Before coming to New Hampshire, I've worked in numerous academic and research contexts primarily focused around HCI design. I was as a Research Associate in the College of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State where I worked for 8 years with the Computer Supported Collaboration and Learning (CSCL) Lab and the Center for Human-Computer Interaction. Also while there, I taught Usability Engineering (IST 413) in the spring of 2011 and 2010 as well as Object-Oriented Design and Software Applications (IST 311) and Distributed-Object Computing (IST 411). In between my time in State College, PA and New Hampshire, I also worked for for Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute as a research programmer on research projects centered around educational gaming design and instructional technology utilizing erroneous examples for learning, at Thomson Reuters on a foreign currency exchange trading client, part-time for EveryBlock.com interacting with local community leaders as a Charter Neighbor for their Pittsburgh rollout, and as a HCI Specialist at the University of Pittsburgh working with the Center for Dental Informatics and CSSD primarily on the Digital Vita research project and its roll-out to the university.
Beyond work, I enjoy a wide range of activities including bicycling, hiking and volleyball.
